Nicanor Austriaco, O.P., is a professor of biology and theology at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island, and a professor of biological sciences at the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. He also serves as an investigator for the Rhode Island IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (RI-INBRE) Program, an advisor at the National Catholic Bioethics Center, and an ethics consultant for St. Joseph Health Services of Rhode Island. After completing his doctoral studies in molecular biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Fr. Austriaco was a fellow of the International Human Frontier Science Program at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at University College London. In 1997, he entered the Dominican Order of Preachers. His laboratory at Providence College currently investigates the genetics of programmed cell death using yeast as a model organism.
