Student Visa Requirements

Student Visa Requirements
[Visa]

All students holding a non-European Union passport are legally required to obtain a student visa before departing from their home country to study in Italy. A valid student visa is a requirement in obtaining a Permit to Stay.

Students must first identify at which consulate they are going to submit their application. Check this website to see which Italian consulate serves your jurisdiction, and book an appointment: https://vistoperitalia.esteri.it/home.aspx

All U.S. based students may also apply at the Boston consulate as CatholicTech is based out of the Boston area.

The documents required to apply for a student visa will vary depending on the consulate is applying to. Here is the general list of documents that most consulates will require.

  1. Visa Application form completed (downloaded from the Italian Consulate website)
  2. Valid Passport
  3. Valid Driver’s License or State ID
  4. One recent passport size photograph
  5. Letter from the U.S. division of CatholicTech stating that the student has been accepted to CatholicTech and is in good standing with the university.
  6. Letter from the Italian division of CatholicTech stating that the student has been accepted into the study abroad program in Castel Gandolfo; both English and Italian versions are required. CatholicTech will provide these documents.
  7. Proof of sufficient funds, including bank statements, scholarship confirmation, or proof of financial support. Financial aid documents will be provided by CatholicTech if applicable.
  8. Proof of health insurance coverage – international coverage for the duration of your stay
  9. Proof of lodging for the entire stay from CatholicTech – provided by CatholicTech.
  10. Flight itinerary
  11. Payment of the Visa fee

When you go for your appointment, bring all original documents with you and be prepared to answer questions that the Consulate may ask you. Processing time for your visa once it is approved varies; you may be able to pick it up the same day as your appointment, or it might take up to 6 weeks, so it is recommended that you apply at least 3 months before your departure date.
