The course shows how governance- defined as the process of governing various aspects of collective human life through formal or informal bodies, utilizing measures such as laws, policies, research guidelines, funding, market mechanisms, circuits of use, communication strategies, training programs, and public advocacy- plays a pivotal role in shaping the development and impact of technology. The course analyzes recent frameworks for global governance of gene editing and artificial intelligence, focusing on the potential benefits and challenges associated with international efforts to manage these rapidly evolving technologies.
