Catholic Tech

Academics

Students are required to take a philosophy, theology, and language course every semester as part of their degree requirements. By the conclusion of their undergraduate programs, all students will have earned enough credits to receive minors in philosophy and theology.

CatholicTech’s philosophy and theology curriculum is uniquely tailored to helping students answer pressing questions about science and technology, such as:

  • How can timeless philosophical and theological principles be applied to emerging and rapidly evolving technologies?
  • What ethical considerations should guide the development of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and gene editing?
  • How does Catholic moral and social teaching apply to scientific progress?

Our curriculum will provide an overview of important topics in philosophy and theology such as logic, form and matter, human nature, free will, and moral theology. Special emphasis is placed on those areas that are integral to a proper philosophical and theological understanding of science and technology.

Several semesters are dedicated specifically to a theological and philosophical treatment of important issues in the STEM fields, such as the distinction between human and artificial intelligence, the ethics of technologies like AI and gene editing, and responsibility for the environmental and cultural effects of technological innovation.

Our faculty are pioneers in their application of philosophical and theological principles to current issues in STEM. Our students will have the opportunity to benefit from the most highly regarded scholars in these areas of study.
