CatholicTech Announces the Launch of the World’s First Catholic Online Master’s in Technology Ethics.

CASTEL GANDOLFO, ITALY – In a world shaped by rapid advances in AI, biotechnology, robotics, and data science, the Catholic Institute of Technology (CatholicTech) is proud to unveil its newest graduate program: the Online Master’s in Technology Ethics, launching in 2026. Designed for scientists, engineers, and technical leaders, this one-of-a-kind program integrates Catholic moral theology, philosophical reasoning, and cutting-edge ethical research to train professionals to lead with integrity in a rapidly evolving digital world.

At the heart of this program is Dr. Lílian Santos, an internationally recognized bioethicist and scholar. Currently serving on the Directive Board at the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Human Rights in Rome, Dr. Santos brings a wealth of academic and practical experience to her role as Program Director. Her research on transhumanism and global genome editing governance was awarded summa cum laude honors and the Academic Excellence Prize at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum.

Joining her is Fr. Nicanor Austriaco, O.P., Ph.D., a Dominican priest and biologist with a doctoral degree from MIT. A dual professor in theology and biology at Providence College and the University of Santo Tomas, Fr. Austriaco is globally respected for his work at the intersection of faith, science, and bioethics.

“This program fills a deep void in modern academia,” says Dr. Santos. “There is no other graduate degree that integrates the timeless wisdom of the Catholic Church with the real-world ethical challenges facing emerging technologies.”

Key Features of the Program:

  • World-Renowned Faculty from institutions including MIT, Providence College, and international UNESCO chairs.
  • Truly Interdisciplinary: Courses span AI ethics, biotechnology, robotics, sustainable development, and Catholic social teaching.
  • Catholic & Global: Rooted in Rome with faculty and students from around the world.
  • Affordable & Accessible: 100% online. Full program tuition is $15,000.
