The Bishop of Albano welcomes Catholic Institute of Technology to his Diocese

Catholic Institute of Technology had the privilege of welcoming to campus The Most Reverend Vincenzo Viva, Bishop of Albano, on Friday, October 11th. His Excellency visited CatholicTech both to learn more about the university and its mission and also to officially welcome the school to his diocese.

The afternoon events began with an introduction by His Excellency, Bishop Arthur Kennedy, President and Professor Emeritus, who welcomed Bishop Vincenzo and briefly described the school’s mission to become an epicenter for a Catholic revival of the sciences through an excellent STEM education and formation in the Faith. “The purpose of the University,” Bishop Kennedy explained, “is to train a new generation of scientists and experts in modern technology who can also give a clear testimony of the Catholic Faith in society.”

Students, faculty, and staff were all in attendance as Bishop Vincenzo spoke about the history and significance of his diocese. Excited at the prospect of CatholicTech’s long-term presence in Castel Gandolfo, Bishop Vincenzo urged all members present, “to develop new, friendly relationships with the different expressions of the local ecclesiastical community.” In particular, he encouraged the students at CatholicTech to meet with the young people that the Diocese of Albano serves through its University Pastoral care.

Bishop Vinzenco’s visit ended with refreshments and a tour of the beautiful Villa and the surrounding grounds that make up CatholicTech’s home. As a token of gratitude for his campus visit, Joseph Shores ’28 and Kyle Brown ’28 presented Bishop Vincenzo with a 3D-printed statue of Our Lady, which they designed and manufactured especially for the occasion.

CatholicTech is grateful to Bishop Vincenzo for his hospitality. We look forward to future visits and to the integration of CatholicTech’s students into the young Catholic community in the Diocese of Albano.

The event was covered in several local news sources, such as Giornale Castelli Romani and Meta Magazine. providing another opportunity for connection with the large Castel Gandolfo community.
