Catholic Institute of Technology Welcomes Cardinal Harvey
Interest in Catholic Institute of Technology’s mission is growing rapidly as news about its enterprises travels through Europe, the United States, and beyond. Just a week after receiving His Excellency Bishop Vincenzo Viva of Albano, CatholicTech’s campus was graced by the presence of His Eminence Cardinal James Michael Harvey—Archpriest of the Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside-the-Walls—and Monsignor William P. Fay—Professor and Formator of older men for the priesthood at the Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary in Massachusetts.
Cardinal Harvey is no stranger to Castel Gandolfo. Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, His Eminence completed his seminary formation at the Pontifical North American College. Following his ordination by Pope Paul VI, Cardinal Harvey studied at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome and subsequently entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See. In 1998, Pope St. John Paul II named Cardinal Harvey Prefect of the Pontifical Household. As Prefect, he oversaw the restoration of the papal audience hall and the papal apartments at Castel Gandolfo, where he lived for some time.
Visiting alongside His Eminence was Monsignor William P. Fay, who worked for several years as the General Secretary of the USCCB, some of that time with CatholicTech’s President, His Excellency Bishop Kennedy. Prior to his appointment as secretary, Msgr. Fay served as the Pastor of St. Columbkille Church in Brighton, MA—the home parish of CatholicTech’s co-founder, William Haughey.
Following a tour of the campus and its grounds, Cardinal Harvey and Monsignor Fay concluded their visit by signing CatholicTech’s guest ledger. It is important to the Institute that, as its vision attracts greater attention, we remain mindful of our loyalty to the Church and our mission to form STEM experts who are rooted in the Faith. CatholicTech looks forward to future visits and to a guest ledger full of signatures voicing support for the union between Faith and Science.
