Dr. Lílian Santos speaks at Research Event in Mexico
Dr. Lílian Santos, faculty member at CatholicTech, professor of Bioethics at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolurm, and Research Scholar at the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Human Rights, recently presented at “Research Land” – the largest clinical research conference in Mexico, organized by APEIC (Asociación de Profesionales Epecialistas en Investigació Clinica A.C.).
Dr. Santos presented at the conference on recent news and studies of technologies including CRISPR-Cas9, wearable devices and chips, and trends including cyborgs, DYI biohackers, and how they effect clinical research ethics.
While research ethics is constantly evolving due to the challenges proposed by developing technologies, Dr. Santos explained different models of bioethics in her presentation, and how research ethics requires a balance of progress and human values, providing a guide to new technologies so they can develop in a moral and humane way.
