Boston College recently released an article featuring Fr. Philip Larrey, Chairman of the Research Ethics Committee at Catholic Institute of Technology, on his expertise in the Church’s stance on artificial intelligence.

Fr. Larrey told Boston College that his interest in artificial intelligence stems from his background in philosophy, where one learns what it means to think and what thought is, and from there he became interested in “examining human thought through the lens of artificial intelligence.” While it is important to make the distinction between human intelligence and artificial intelligence, Fr. Larrey is motivated to apply the lessons we can learn from AI to understanding human cognition more deeply.

While he is a member of CatholicTech, Fr. Larrey is currently a faculty member at Boston College and chairman of Humanity 2.0 – a foundation whose mission is to facilitate collaborative forums between public, private, and faith-based organizations at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences to address issues around new technologies and AI.

Fr. Larrey discusses more of his experiences in the field of AI and developing technologies in his interview with Boston College. For the full interview, read more here
