Campus Life Update

Today is July 11th, the Feast of Saint Benedict. As the author of Western Monasticism, this patron saint of Europe made a notable mark on both medieval and modern Catholics alike. It is fitting to celebrate this prominent man’s doings in the place of his patronage, planted on European soil.

CatholicTech creates a unity between the spirit of American patriotism where both business suits and cowboy boots roam free and the charming Boot country that promotes “La dolce vita”. Being an American university planted in Italy presents students with the opportunity to proudly represent their country of origin and embrace the beauty of Italian culture. You can bet your bottom dollar that CatholicTech members gathered for a barbeque on the fourth of July to celebrate our freedoms. The group enjoyed a feast of fried foods and hearty burgers. After dinner, those gathered lit sparklers and looked at the mirage of colors sprinkling the night sky during a firework display.

Right after the Fourth of July, we were thrilled to launch our High School Summer Program: an intensive course in either Introduction to Computer Science or Applied Computational Sciences. Our group of young students arrived on Sunday, settling into their charming Italian rooms and getting to know each other over pizza. Alongside their studies, they have enjoyed exploring Castel Gandolfo, the nearby towns of Albano and Ariccia, and making use of our campus pool. Some favorite memories have included competitions in games of Jeopardy and card games while stargazing from the roof. CatholicTech is grateful to expand the impact of our gifts beyond ourselves and invite others to grow in faith and knowledge.
